Orbost Fire Brigade Appliances.
1933. First Appliance
.A 1923 Dodge Hose Carrier with a 1,000 feet of hose and could carry 8 men. It
first saw action in Orbost at a house in the north end of Forest Rd. This
vehicle was sent on to Carrum in 1935
1935. First fire Engine a Dodge with a Gardener two stage centrifugal pump mounted at the rear and driven by a shaft from a power take - off on the side of the gear box. This vehicle came ex Bairnsdale Urban Fire Brigade. and later went to Heyfield after 18 years service in Orbost.
1953. Front mounted Austin pumper received from C.F.A and served Orbost well
until replaced by Dyna Pumper.
1986 Dyna pumper.
First used in Orbost in 1986. Still in operation in 2000. Due to be replaced in
2001.
Acco
Orbost Brigade has had 2 Acco fire tankers . The first was a 2 wheel drive model
which came into the brigade in 1979. This vehicle proved to be unsuited to the
local terrain and was replaced with a 4 wheel drive version in 1981.this
remained in the brigade until 1987.
Hino.
This 4 wheel drive vehicle entered service with the brigade in 1987. It has a
Hatz Diesel pump motor and carries 3000 litres of water. As well as being a wild
fire fighting vehicle it is also use extensively for Urban hazards.
Brigade Mobile.
First purchased 1991. This vehicle is updates every 2 years. The first 4
vehicles have been Toyota's. In 2000 we change to a Mazda to fulfill this roll.
