BAIRNSDALE DAYLIGHT LODGE NO.877

More About Us

Freemasonry has in all ages stood on its precepts and examples for the betterment of men.  The men who made their dreams blossom into reality in being involved in the formation of a new lodge must have had these precepts and examples in mind.

It is unfortunate that the lodge's early records were destroyed by fire.  However, a duplicate carbon book survived the fire and it is from this book that the following information has been gathered.

In July, 1983 a conversation took place between three brethren, V Wor Bro L. E. Hopkins, Wor Bro C. H. Uebergang and Wor Bro L. V. Hancock about the feasibility of forming a daylight lodge to enable brethren from Raymond Island to attend Masonic meetings.  The problem was that there was limited access to the island in the form of a ferry which ceased running at 6.30 pm.  The initial formation meeting was held on the 3rd August, 1983 at the Masonic Hall in Francis Street, Bairnsdale.  Further meetings were held in 1983 with the final outcome being the Consecration and Installation meeting on the 28th April, 1984 with Rt Wor Bro L. E. Hopkins, PJGW being Installed as the foundation Master.
