The GDRC is a leading association which promotes empowerment
and independence for people with disabilities, their families
and carers. Opportunities are created for the full inclusion
of people with disabilities into the community by focusing on
people's abilities: through advocacy, education, community awareness
and provision of information .
What Does The Council Want To Achieve?
- Empower people with disabilities through awareness of services available.
- Encourage people with disabilities on the council to ensure accurate response to their
needs.
- Be a central resource of information for people with disabilities, their families or carers
and service providers.
- Be involved in planning and co-ordination of existing services and initiating new
innovative services.
- Act as an advocate where necessary.
- Raise community awareness of the implications of disability
- Be involved in campaigns to reduce the occurrence of preventable disability.
What Does the Advocacy Service Do?
The staff of the Gippsland Disability Resource Council assist people who
have a disability, or their family members or carers, to resolve issues or
solve problems.
While we are assisting you we make sure that:
- YOU have control over decisions that effect YOUR life.
- We give you enough information to help you make those decisions.
